Helen Mirren as ‘The Doctor’? Maybe…
But who I’d really love to see as The Doctor is Tamsin Greig.
She’s done quite a bit of comedy in her time, so she ought to be able to pull off the appropriate level of quirkiness. But she has also had her share of more serious roles on screen and stage, so the serious side of The Doctor should also come through.
I suppose it depends quite a bit on how one sees The Doctor evolving in their next regeneration. Does ‘The Doctor’ become harder and more serious and cynical about the world (I could see Mirren doing this well), or more optimistic about the universe, rediscovering their sense of mirth. (Greig would be great for this I think.)
